Analysis & Tracking

PR – PageRank

Google’s ranking software that calculates the relevance of a webpage to the search keywords entered.

PV – Page View

The request to load a single HTML file (web page) of an Internet site.

UV – Unique Visitor

The number of individuals requesting pages from the website during a given period of time.

Internet Advertising Terms

PPC – Pay Per Click

Advertisers select and bid on keywords for which they would like their ad to appear when a query is performed on a search engine. The most common PPC platforms; Google (AdWords), Yahoo (Search Marketing) and Bing. (Microsoft AdCenter)

PPL – Pay Per Lead

Pay per lead advertising is self-explanatory. Popular pay per lead companies include Angie’s List, Houzz, HomeAdvisor or Thumbtack. These services generate the leads and then sells them to (multiple) advertisers.

ROI – Return on Investment

The percentage of profit or revenue derived from an advertising or marketing campaign / strategy.

ROAS – Return on Ad Spend

Related to ROI, ROAS is the revenue generated per dollar spent. ROAS can be a useful metric when you want to compare the performance of two different advertising strategies.

Internet Marketing Terms

B2B – Business to Business

Companies that market themselves to other businesses (vs. marketing directly toward consumers).

B2C – Business to Consumer

Companies that market themselves to consumers (vs. other businesses).

CRO – Conversion Rate Optimization

SMM – Social media marketing

A form of Internet marketing that utilizes social networks as a marketing tool.

SMO – Social media optimization

The use of social media communities to generate publicity in order to increase the awareness of a product, brand or event.

UX – User Experience

IG – Instagram

A social network to share images, short videos and photos.

RT – Retweet

A Twitter function where you re-share content posted by someone else.

SM – Social media

Refers to the entire industry.

YT – YouTube

A social network dedicated to videos.
